/CL Update - 6/9/14

OKAY! I weathered the storm, but felt I was losing money day after day by NOT being able to trade (the funds tied up by margin requirement) so, today I got out at a $580 loss. The losses were up in the $3K level for many days, so I consider getting out this cheaply a win.

If you recall, I bought two contracts at 104.16 and then the market dropped for days...I sold them this morning for $103.87 (.29 cents x $10 = $290 per contract, $580 total loss).

Since I got out, I've been trading (small, small, small) and already recouped that loss today already. It does not pay to lose big. So I'm glad I held out, but next time I'll set a stop before I walk away, confident. NEVER be confident!

I need to update the running tally of wins and losses for this account:

  • Date--------------- # of Trades--Daily Profit---$5K Fund Balance
  • March 25, 2014-----18 trades-----$415.08-------- $5,415.08

  • March 28, 2014------3 trades----($427.76)--------$5,823.01
  • March 31, 2014 ---- 4 trades----$195.71----------$6,018.72
  • April 1, 2014---------6 trades----$377.95----------$6,396.67
  • April 2, 2014--------15 trades---$642.02-----------$7,038.69
  • April 3, 2014--------10 Trades--($379.40)---------$6,659.29
  • April13, 2014--------1 trade--($30.00)------------$6,629.29
  • April 30------about 100 wee trades $442.61........$7,071.90

  • Jun 9, 2014------18 trades---$303.38**-------------$10,040.72

  • **included in this profit is a $580. loss which I held from 5/28 to 6/9 to assure the loss was not larger.

    1. Thanks for the Blog. I setup TOS with your indicators this morning and spent most of the day scalping in Paper Money. By the end of the day I even ventured to the Futures Trader tab and starting going nuts in /NQ and /ES. The last half hour of the trading day I just scalped in and out 1 tick back and for of /ES. It was tooooo easy. $12.50 a tick -$7 for fees and I took about $5 per trade. They literally last a few seconds each, just over and over until I had 1k in profits. Scary easy. I opened caht in TOS and asked what the story is? Can it be this easy or did Paper Money accomodate me? They told me PM fills at the mid price, not the Natural price, so it should be a little more difficult outside of Paper Money. Thought this is something everyone here should recognize. If you don't know the difference you should google it. I'm not an expert here and I don't think I could explain it well, but suffice to say if I did what I did today in a real account I'd likely be taking $5 losses each trade rather than profits. ALSO...I was having such a hard time with the delayed data this morning that I entered chat and asked them what was going on. Without asking they immediately turned on real time data in my PM account and they told me it should stay that way. So now I can practice knowing I'm getting real time real pace of market experience. That made the rest of the day much more enjoyable and profitable. Hope this helps. Thanks again, I'll be checking back on your progress!

    2. What a great post, Adam, and thank you! And good information to have, for all of us. Having real time data in the PM account is important and I didn't think that
anyone had anything different. (apparently so? MY screen has always said real time data, but I might have requested it years ago, I don't remember).

I just got hands on a small trading fund, and when those funds get clear and transferred to TOS I'll be going for real money, so yes, I'll be watching my progress too.
Let us know how you're doing. It's really more fun knowing that others are sharing experience. Be it winning or losing.

    3. I'm still at it in paper money. Just cleared 1,000 in profits this morning. Also I applied for Futures access in my TD Ameritrade account. I had to massage my application to get tier 2 access for options last year. Hoping this isn't any more difficult than that was. Anyone have any trouble with this?
